The Topix Index rose for the second day, climbing 0.8%, or 18.98 to 2,281.18 in Tokyo. The index advanced to the highest closing level since July 5.
Today, electric appliances stocks led the market higher, as 30 of 33 sectors gained; 1,731 of 2,156 shares rose, while 343 fell.
Toyota Motor Corp. contributed the most to the index gain, increasing 1.6%. Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co. had the largest increase, rising 21.4%.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 1.23 percent, or 396.69 points, to end at 32,700.94.
