Japanese stocks advance as data showed the economy expanded at a faster pace than initially estimated. The yen's weakness overnight also supported equities.
The Topix Index rose 0.2% to 2,211.12 as of 9:01 a.m. Tokyo time, while the Nikkei advanced 0.1% to 31,949.65.
Toyota Motor Corp. contributed the most to the Topix Index gain, increasing 1.1%. Out of 2,156 stocks in the index, 1,277 rose and 616 fell, while 263 were unchanged.
The yen weakened Wednesday, as bets that the Fed's tightening may stay in place boosted the greenback following a surprise interest-rate hike by the Bank of Canada.
