Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday, extending US rallies on hopes that the Federal Reserve could pause its rate hikes, while traders eye progress on a deal to avert a US default.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index was up 0.35 percent, or 109.00 points, at 31,257.01 in early trade, while the broader Topix index added 0.42 percent, or 9.01 points, to 2,158.30.
