The Hang Seng Index opened 1.2% lower at 18,855.73 in Hong Kong.
AIA Group Ltd. contributed the most to the index decline, decreasing 2.4%. Country Garden Services Holdings Co. had the largest drop, falling 6.9%.
In early trading, 72 of 80 shares fell, while 5 rose; all sectors were lower, led by commerce and industry stocks.
