The S&P 500 dipped in late afternoon trading, erasing earlier gains that brought the benchmark index to trade at its highest level on an intraday basis in nine months.
The S&P lost 0.1%, while the Nasdaq Composite traded flat. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 161 points, or about 0.5%.
Apple traded lower, shedding earlier gains that brought the stock to an all-time high. The iPhone maker on Monday unveiled its highly anticipated virtual reality headset at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.
Intel fell more than 4% as Apple revealed a new chip, while Nvidia pulled back on valuation concerns after its recent surge. JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs also contributed to the losses, struggling on news that regulators are considering upping capital requirements at large banks.
