The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged Friday as traders cheered a strong jobs report and lawmakers passing a debt ceiling bill that averts a U.S. default.
The 30-stock Dow jumped 701.19 points, or 2.12%, to end at 33,762.76. The S&P 500 climbed 1.45% to close at 4,282.27. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.1% to 13,240.77, reaching its highest level since April 2022 during the session.
With Friday's gains, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq finished the holiday-shortened trading week about 1.8% and 2% higher, respectively. The Dow's Friday advance pushed it into positive territory, last up 2.1% week to date. The Nasdaq is on pace to end its sixth straight week higher, a streak length not seen for the technology-heavy index since 2020.
