Japanese stocks climb, following their US peers higher as investors pin hopes on big tech earnings this week. Nidec, a bellwether for the electric-vehicle industry, is set to report results after the Japanese market closes Tuesday.
Topix Index rose 0.8% to 2,684.07 as of 9 a.m. Tokyo time.
Nikkei advanced 0.9% to 37,785.21.
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. contributed the most to the Topix Index gain, increasing 1%. Out of 2,146 stocks in the gauge, 1,482 rose and 340 fell, while 324 were unchanged.
