Asian stocks gained as investors bought shares of some major companies with most markets closed for holidays.
The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.2%, with Toyota, Sony and Asustek among the biggest boosts. Key equity gauges advanced in Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam while mainland China benchmarks edged lower. Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia and most other markets were shut.
Shipping stocks were among the main drags on the regional stock measure as Maersk said it's preparing to resume routes through the Red Sea. Game stocks extended losses in China on concerns over new regulations, even as Beijing appeared to soften its stance.
